I'm Steffi Bauer, Textile Designer & Illustrator based in Munich.

I create artworks for clients and develop personal work. I specialized in transforming artworks technically into files printable on textiles. My background in fashion design, fashion operations, and graphic design allows me to take a holistic approach to this particular process in design - from the first sketches to the finished product.

 I hold a B.A. in communication design from the University of Applied Sciences Munich and was able to gain extensive collaboration experience - from artist friends to international fashion companies. This allows me to implement professional projects successfully. I am happy to offer access to my network.

From 2019 to 2022, I lectured textile design and illustration at IFOG Akademie which gave me great joy. I got to share my experience and craft, while I receive inspiration from other young, open-minded people.

Profile

I usually start analog, with pen and paper. This gives my work the natural irregularity that I find important. While I apply multiple techniques of bringing ink on paper, aquarelle remains one of my favorites. 

After digitalizing the artworks, I work out 

, for example. That allows to apply a pattern endlessly in any direction. Always keeping the ideas and requirements of my clients and collaboration partners in mind, I create print-ready files that are ready to be used for production. For limited editions, I sometimes apply artworks directly on textiles or objects.

As an illustrator, I am inspired by the plants growing in my studio and all around me. My artworks combine fragile black lines with aquarelle color and always a hint of natural incidents. I often develop my work based on personal feelings, cultural developments or social incidents – I process what I experience through my work.

As a professional and a human being, I feel responsible to foster sustainability, a view that I try to consider for myself and offer to my clients.

, (Munich creative business week). I created four individual invitation designs, a big window illustration and finally a  special teatowel textile design for the four great events.

Reform Kitchen Party

My summer was marked by floating thoughts and a blurry vision. If you convert these feelings into fabric designs, it becomes a colorful mix of woven fabrics, screen printing, and hand-painted ornaments. Full of good vibes and interesting organic shapes, this collection is one of my favorites so far!

It contains a screen-printed organic cotton t-shirt that has been refined with hand-painted ornaments. 
A woven scarf made of 60% organic cotton and 40% wool, and two digitally printed silk bandanas, 100% silk.

The editorial photo shoot was a great collaboration between the amazing photographer Conny Mirbach and me. With Model 

Floral Blur Collection

This special textile project arose in collaboration with Kvadrat and Vitra for their exclusive summer party this year.

 
Painting on 3,5 x 4,5m Kvadrat Cotton material was by  far the biggest scale I did so far. I had such a great time organizing the illustrations on the textile. All created with a brush and some textile paint. In the end  I think I captured the spirit of  this special summer party pretty well. For

Typography as the main topic of this issue, was little challenge for me. That is why I tried to create a playful and intuitive approach to the artwork. A design that grows itself. To do this, I experimented with the letters, created cut outs and arranged them on top of my illustrations. Letters with a very unique pattern design were created. Big thanks to

Grafikmagazin Cover Design

  bottle design! For the past 1,5 years, we carefully worked out the perfect plant illustration for every single product together. I am so proud to be such a big part of the nkm appearance.

The new nkm bottles were specially designed for their optimized reusable system so that every component can remain 100% in the cycle. Instead of glued-on labels, the glass bottles are now decorated with robust ceramic paint. The attachments can be granulated after use and formed into new attachments.  Even the pipette can be washed and reused. The new nkm bottle combines innovative solutions for a new sustainability standard.

. What an event.   I got the pleasure to underline the event with some Illustrations. We created a Poster which is in a folded version the menu of the event. On top I designed the windows to give the pop-up the final touch. It was a pleasure working with you, Braskos!

I do a lot of wedding cards, birth cards and such. But this particular Wedding Print  Set for 

 was  one of a kind. It includes a  folded card for the registry invitation, a printed postcard for the party invitation, a thank you card and as a special surprise, they will give everybody a specialized Artprint as a gift in the end. I love the way we created the details together, all in a summer vibe Italian party style!

Lisbon in May seems like a paradise for people from central europe, still shaken by winter, like me. While visiting the capital of Portugal, I had the impression that only few people are actually living in the city centre. The rest oft he people there were tourists.

Looking at the beautiful empty houses, a poster on the side of the street caught my attention. It was a hand drawn picture of a young man with glasses that said: "Oscar precisa duma casa em Lisboa." – "Oscar needs a home in Lisbon". I was shocked by the ambiguity of this beautiful city, and started to collect more logos, ornaments and drawings. This was the start of "Faces of Lisbon", a pattern design project about finding home.

The Palms pattern design was developed in collaboration with the German fashion brand 

. Inspired by the relaxed vibes of Italian camping atmosphere, the collection embodies a summery and laid-back attitude. 

The Palms pattern is made of several painted leaves, all very carefully arranged to form a nonchalant print design and material.

The ability to recognize our own weaknesses as strengths is something most people struggle with. This project conveys a person’s inner conflicts through light floral illustrations of the buttercup, making real chaos look pretty beautiful!
